Anchor Worms = Lernea elegans
Fish Lice = Argulus
Are two parasites that can be seen with the unassisted eye. They’re both about a quarter-inch (4-6mm) in size.
The best and safest treatment is an IGR. (Chitin Synthesis Inhibitor)
removal of Anchor Worms is a fool’s errand. There is a big, toothy head under the scales for Lernea and you’ll do incalculable damage removing that. Let the worm die and then the head dissolves quickly. When Argulus dies it just lets go and dissolves in the tank. Handling the fish compounds their stress and the IGR’s work fast enough.
Insect Growth Regulators are available under many trade names but maybe the easiest to find is “Dimilin” as:
Generic “Lufenuron”
Found in:
Larvadex, Program Tablets, Dimilin-X, CyroPro, LAWP from Microbe-Lift
